China Unhappy With Android Dominance

There is one more entity apart from the likes of Apple, BlackBerry, Microsoft and Nokia who are not particularly happy with the continuing dominance of Android over other mobile OS platforms. China. That’s right. The giant communist country known for its anti-Google stand is not too happy over the fact that a large percentage of the Chinese populace is becoming too dependent on Android – and in turn to Google and its services.
China Unhappy With Android Dominance
The matter is been seeing with such seriousness that the country’s  Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has released a white paper in order to voice the concerns to the Government. According to their statistics, over 70 percent of all smartphones in China now run Android as of Q4 2012. Arch rival iOS is languishing with just 21 percent of the market in spite of the impressive showing after the iPhone 5 launch there last year.
The White paper states:
“Our country’s mobile operating system research and development is too dependent on Android.”  It also adds that Google is doing every bit to discriminate against a bunch of Chinese Internet companies that include the Alibaba Group, Baidu Inc., and Huawei Technologies. The claim is that Google would not allow these companies access to Google’s core technologies and this would render them unable to build on top of Android.
That said, the White Paper doesn’t talk about any kind of measures that the Chinese Government needs to take to “check” the clout of Google. China is likely to push for an alternative OS. However this would have to be a long term strategy at least for now because there seems to be no stopping the Android juggernaut in its current form!
