Spotify-WP8
The Spotify app is not at presently available for Windows Phone 8.  We don’t know exactly why, but at least we can now confirm that it is on its way.
Anna Ström ,  the Product Marketing Manager for Windows Phone in Sweden, confirmed this on the Swedish Windows Phone Facebook page, saying that they are aware that this was a “must-have” app for the platform, and that they were doing everything they could to make it arrive as rapidly as possible.

Winp.cn managed to get their hands on some pictures from the certification process of the Nokia Lumia 505, showing the device in both assembled and disassembled state.

The pictures conveniently provide measurements, showing the WP 7.8 device to be 62 mm wide, 11mm thick, and 120 m tall.  The screen is of course a 3.7 inch WVGA job and the disassembly pictures shows the battery is removable.
The device has apparently been designed by Nokia Beijing Yizhuang R & D centre, will come in Black, red, magenta and has just been released in Mexico.

Three UK confirms they will be carrying the Nokia Lumia 920

Three UK confirms they will be carrying the Nokia Lumia 920

image
We already know EE will be losing their Nokia Lumia 920 exclusivity next year, withVodafone already promising to carry the handset.
Now on Twitter 3 UK has also chimed in, and confirmed that they too will be carrying the device. Unfortunately no time scale was given, but it is likely around the same time as as Vodafone.
Three is the favourite network in UK for power users, with a fast 3G network with very reasonable data plans, so the development is really good news which should make Nokia Lumia fans very happy.

My LockScreen app now in the Windows Phone Store

My LockScreen app now in the Windows Phone Store

My LockScreen for Windows Phone 8
My LockScreen is a new app that lets you decorate your lock screen with collages of your own pictures. It’s a great addition for users that like to customize their phone as much as possible.
The nice thing about this app is that it refreshes the lock screen periodically in the background. That means: From time to time there’ll be some new memories of your last party, vacation or just the people you love on your lock screen.
The app provides the option to select one or more folders from the pictures library. It also comes with five different templates that determine the layout of the images.
You can pick up the app in the Windows Phone Store for 0,99€ ($0.99) with a free trial:

Gnomio Windows Phone smartwatch fundraiser cancelled

Gnomio Windows Phone smartwatch fundraiser cancelled

20121212034744-GIF-1
It seems the crowd-sourcing fundraising project for the Russian Gnomio smartwatch which was meant to be compatible with Windows Phone and run on Windows Embedded Compact 7 has been cancelled.
Some donors at IndieGogo have been refunded, suggesting the company was not finding traction in hitting their goal of $100,000. The project page at IndieGogo has also been made private.
The team had planned to have the product out by April next year, but their time scale always appeared overly optimistic, which I think scared off many investors.
The ambitious goal of the watch was to support:
  • Notification of incoming and missed calls
  • SMS and email notification
  • Facebook and Twitter messages
  • Calendar reminders, timer
  • Weather
  • The player controls
  • Reminders of low battery charge smartphone
  • Search feature phone
Hopefully the same company will get alternate funding, or some-one else will step up next year with a product the Windows Phone community can really get behind.

Latest Kantar data for November fails to show significant Windows Phone 8 bump

Latest Kantar data for November fails to show significant Windows Phone 8 bump

kantarNovember2012
Kantar has released their market share numbers for the 3 months ending November 25th.
The number produced a mixed picture, with Windows Phone market share up in many markets, but also down in a few compared to the last set of numbers a month ago.
In UK Windows Phone breached the 5% market share mark, hitting 5.1%, up from 4.6% a month ago and a mere 1.7% a year ago.
Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, comments:“Although Windows sales in the US remain subdued, Nokia is managing to claw back some of its share in Great Britain through keenly priced Lumia 800 and 610 prepay deals. The next period will prove crucial in revealing initial consumer reactions to the Nokia 920 and HTC Windows 8X devices.”
“Nokia continues to find it tough to attract younger consumers in Great Britain. Over the past six months, just 28% of Nokia Lumia 800 sales have come from under 35’s, compared with 42% of all smartphone sales. With the Nokia Lumia 920 being one of the few handsets available on EE 4G, new tariffs may help to change this by attracting early adopters in the coming months.”
In Italy Windows Phone maintained its above 10% market share, at 11.8%, up 0.1% MoM and up from 3.6% YoY.
In Germany however Windows Phone market share was only 1.8%, down from 2.3% last month and 3.2% last year, possibly due to German buyers waiting for the largely unavailable Nokia Lumia 920.
In US Windows maintained a 2.7% market share, the same as last month and slightly up from 2.1% last year.
In the EU5 countries (UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy) Windows Phone had a 4.7% market share,  the same as last month and up from 2.7% last year.
Of note is that Windows Phone is close to overtaking RIM in UK, its last European strong hold, at 6.5 vs 5.1%, and has overtaken the OS in total in the EU5, at 4.4% vs 4.7%, making it the 3rd biggest OS in the EU5 and probably Europe overall.
Overall while the numbers do not show a significant Windows Phone 8 bump yet, market share is close to double that of Windows Phone in Q4 2011, and with wider adoption and distribution in places like China, the Middle East and South America, not to mention a significantly larger smartphone market, suggests Gartner’s Windows Phone tally of 2.759 million Windows Phones sold in Q4 2012 should safely hit at least 5 million this quarter, and hopefully more as supplies of new Windows Phone 8 handsets ease in December.

Fhotoroom photo filter app passes 1 million downloads on Windows Phone

Fhotoroom photo filter app passes 1 million downloads on Windows Phone

We do not know how many apps achieved the feat, but Fhotoroom just announced on their official twitter account that they have passed 1 million downloads of their Windows Phone Photo filter app.
The app, which was released in the beginning of the year has been averaging 100,000 downloads a month and saw a 130% boost with the release of Windows Phone 8, has been named the best Windows Phone photo app of 2012 by wp7applist, and currently boasts 4 out of 5 stars in the Windows Phone Store.
qrcodeThe team has also released a Windows 8 and Windows RT version, which has seen very strong adoption already, and is growing even faster than the Windows Phone version.
Despite all of that the app remains free and can be found in the Windows Phone Store here.
