The handset will go ahead deal unsubsidized for $150, and will be combined with T-Mobile's $30 for every month unrestricted information and content arrange, which obviously is a promise free offering given that the handset has been bought through and through.

Nokia Lumia 620 competitively priced in India at 14999 INR

Nokia Lumia 620 competitively priced in India at 14999 INR

image

Nokia has made the pricing of the Nokia Lumia 620 official in India, and I think for once Nokia’s critics will be satisfied, as the handset is very competitively priced at 14,999 INR ($273).
This puts the device up against handsets like the HTC One V at Rs 15000 and the Samsung Galaxy S Duo, with both handsets having similar specs.
Nokia has been in the habit of overpricing their handsets recently when they hit the market in India.  Do our readers think they struck the right mark this time? Let us know below.

Investors respond positively to Nokia’s growth ambitions in SEC filing

Investors respond positively to Nokia’s growth ambitions in SEC filing

image
The US stock market has responded positively to Nokia’s 20-F SEC filing, where Nokia repeated their ambition to grow faster than the smartphone market, thereby gaining market share, and maintain an operating margin of 10% or more.
They also expected their Nokia Siemens joint venture to also have a 5-10% profit margin.
Nokia also re-iterated that they expected in the short term Microsoft’s platform support payments to exceed the minimum Windows Phone royalty payments the company will make to Microsoft.
Nokia’s shares have risen 3% earlier today, and is current hovering around 2% up on the day.

Waterproof cover for the Nokia Lumia 620 on the way

Waterproof cover for the Nokia Lumia 620 on the way

Sander Teunissen,  B2B Sales Manager for Nokia Netherlands, has tweeted that an IP54 protective cover for the Nokia Lumia 620 is on its way.
The cover would, according to the rating, provide good protection against the ingress of dust and will be resistant to water spray from all directions, though not quite so resistant that you would be able to swim with it.
The cover likely reveals a new enterprise focus for what is usually seen as a youth-orientated smartphone.  In Finland Nokia sells a large number of their smartphones into business, and have already produced a rugged case for the Nokia Lumia 820.
Nokia Russia has told WinPhoneLive.ru that the cover  will not be available immediately, but should hit the market shortly.

Nokia Expresses Support For Apple In Patent Case Against Samsung

Nokia Expresses Support For Apple In Patent Case Against Samsung

Nokia has filed its amicus brief yesterday in court in order to support Apple in the ongoing patent case between Apple ans Samsung. Nokia is supporting Apple’s argument that U.S. patent holders have access to injunctive relief even if a defendant can argue that the accused products potentially implement (or infringe) vast numbers of patents.
Here is the part of the Nokia’s brief submitted to the court,
DESIRABILITY OF AMICUS BRIEF
The district court’s ruling that in order to obtain a permanent injunction against an infringing competitor, a patent holder must also establish a “causal nexus” between the patented feature and the source of demand for the infringing product could cause wide-ranging damage to the United States patent protection landscape. By creating such a rule, the district court has diverged from the precedent of this court and could severely restrict, if not outright eliminate in some circumstances, the ability of a patent holder to obtain injunctive relief.
Amici urge this court to reverse the district court’s order denying permanent injunctive relief, because the new “causal nexus” requirement set forth therein sets a dangerous precedent. This Court has previously determined that while the Supreme Court’s decision in eBay v. MercExchange, L.L.C., 547 U.S. 388, 393 (2006) eliminated any presumption that the holder of an infringed patent is automatically entitled to a permanent injunction, that decision was in no way intended to eliminate the availability of injunctive relief altogether. See Robert Bosch LLC v. Pylon Mfg. Corp., 659 F.3d 1142, 1149 (Fed. Cir. 2011). The “causal nexus” requirement as applied by the district court here, making the evidentiary standard for obtaining a permanent injunction so burdensome and strict that it may rarely, if ever, be met, will essentially lead to a compulsory-licensing system wherein patent holders are forced to license patented technology to competing firms, which could in turn harm incentives to innovate.

Latest Nokia Lumia 920 firmware offers fix for “Other” storage issue

Latest Nokia Lumia 920 firmware offers fix for “Other” storage issue

9c85fef9tw1e2f910dv62j_225126
File this under “well, that was fast!”
Winp.cn reports that the latest firmware for the Nokia Lumia 920 on Navifirm offers a new utility and feature – the ability to clean out temporary files.
The firmware 1232.5957.1308.1004, which can be loaded via the Nokia Care Suite, will allow users to manually clean out temporarily files, but will also do it automatically at timed intervals.
It is not clear if this is Microsoft or Nokia’s work, but the colourful graphic does suggest to me Nokia is once again saving Microsoft’s bacon.
Hopefully the new firmware will roll out rapidly to affected users.

Those Nokia engineers it seems are always busy, busy, busy.
Their latest enhancement to the Nokia Lumia 920 is a new feature added to their Display and Touch device-specific settings app.
untitled(4)The app allows one to set the colour temperature of your display, from cold and blue to warm and red and anything in-between. I am not sure who asked for this feature, but I don’t think anyone will say no to more customizability for their phone.
The feature does not appear to be present on all handsets, and may need specific firmware.
See if your handset qualify by downloading the app using the QRCode right or clicking this link.
Nokia’s Account app and also Extras and Info app has also been updated, but as far as we know these did not add anything half as cool.

Nokia Releases #2InstaWithLove App To Remind Instagram About Lumia Devices

2instawithlove Nokia Instagram
Nokia has released a new app in its collection in Windows Phone Store. The app named #2InstaWithLove allows you to take photos, apply polaroid filter and share it with  hashtag #2InstaWithLove. Just today, we reported about the rumor that Nokia is already working on Instagram app exclusively for Windows Phone devices. If that report was true, then I don’t find the reason why Nokia released this app to publicly pressurize Instagram. May be to stir the excitement among Lumia users? What do you think?
App Description:
Many of you have asked when Instagram will be coming to Windows Phone, and the #2InstaWithLove app was created as a way for you to have your voice heard.
The app allows you to take a photo using the classic polaroid filter and automatically adds the hashtag #2InstaWithLove. It’s all about showing Instagram just how passionate the Windows Phone community is – so be creative, have fun and be sure to share your favorite photos with us using a social network of your choice.
Download it here from your Lumia devices.

Nokia hints at the return of “feature” smartphones

Nokia hints at the return of “feature” smartphones

SlashGear sat down with Jo Harlow, EVP of Smart Devices, Marco Ahtisaari, EVP of Design, and Stefan Pannenbecker, VP of Industrial Design at Mobile World Congress and probed them about their vision of the future.
One of their interesting themes was that rather than a single, increasingly powerful phone in your pocket, all three VPs talked about a resurgence in dedicated devices.
While smartphones have been evolving to merge the camera, the music player, the fitness tracker, and more, the Nokia execs  however felt that specificity has its own advantages.
“I think there’ll be room for more and more dedicated devices that do a few things really well again” Ahtisaari predicts. “And that is slightly a contrarian view, but I think what we’ll see is increasing complexity and ability… you can either shortcut through the environment, but this means also space for dedicated devices that do a few things really well. Yes, a phone, but other functionalities too.”
The idea harkens back to the pre-smartphone feature-phone age, when we had camera phones and music phones or super-slim phones and may find its expression in smartphones that remain generalists but do one thing, such as taking pictures, really well.
An example of such a device was the 808 Pureview, which compromised on size by offering the best smartphone camera ever, and we may see such a dedicated device again with the rumoured Nokia EOS Pureview smartphone, which is said to be an AT&T exclusive.
Do our readers think having to chose a phone based on only a few stand-out features is a good idea, or do you prefer a phone that does most things well instead on one thing excellently?  Let us know below.

Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 confirmed in leak

Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 confirmed in leak

lumia928-2
A high end Nokia for Verizon has been rumoured for some time, and now a leak from Verizon’s internal systems has provided some confirmation for the handset and the suggestion that it may be coming soon.
PhoneArena posted a screen shot from Verizon’s internal systems, said to show the already released Nokia Lumia 822 and also the Nokia Lumia 928, entered into the system on the 1/17/2013.
PhoneArena also suggests the Nokia RM-860 which passed through the FCC recently is the same handset,  which may mean the handset will hit the market sooner rather than later.
With the device sharing roughly the same moniker as the Nokia Lumia 920 I expect a very similar device, with the same HD screen and camera, though one wonders what changes Verizon will demand.

Making the most of the few hours until Nokia’s official Mobile World Congress announcement, evleaks have posted some more marketing renders of the Nokia Lumia 520 and 720.
The pictures reveal nothing new, except to possible show the low-end Nokia Lumia 520’s shape a bit better.

I think what is more interesting is that nothing related to the Nokia Laser for Verizon has shown up, indicating I think that we will probably not see this handset at Mobile World Congress tomorrow.

Grey Nokia Lumia 920 now being shipped in Russia

Grey Nokia Lumia 920 now being shipped in Russia

A few of days ago pre-orders opened for the elusive Grey Nokia Lumia 920, and today, according to the official Nokia Conversations Russia blog, the handsets will be shipping to future owners.
According the Nokia Russia, the  the thrill of single shade of gray is quite different:
The Matt machine is very pleasant to the touch and calm in appearance. It is striking how the texture and colour transforms the device, when it is still the the the same Nokia Lumia 920, with the same weight, the same size, and the feeling of others.
In China Nokia is charging a premium for the Cyan handset.  Maybe Nokia should consider charging a little more for the Grey version.  I know I would certainly add a little more for the very unique colour.
