Nokia Drive+ Beta for WP8 updated–now easier on your battery

Windows Phone 8 introduced the welcome ability to let GPS navigation apps continue to run in the background, but this does open up the issue of the same GPS navigation app draining your battery by constantly polling for your location, even when you are sitting in the office.

The latest update to Nokia Drive + Beta for Windows Phone 8 addresses this very issue, and quite intelligently.

The app will now turn off your GPS location polling when sent to the background, except when active navigation is going on, meaning unexpected battery drain will be avoided.

The full change log include:

• Power Saving Mode: turn off GPS when the app runs in the background (except when used in guide mode.
• Back to my position and distance measurement: one-touch access to your current position as you explore or zooming of the map also shows the distance from the current position
• User Interface Enhancements
• Bug fixes

The app, which is Nokia exclusive, can be found in the Nokia Collection.
