GContact provide 3rd party CardDAV support on Windows Phone

GContact provide 3rd party CardDAV support on Windows Phone

Well, it seems the new Windows Phone API’s have come to Windows Phone 8 user’s rescue after all in Google’s battle with Microsoft.
Windows Phone 8 provides the option to have 3rd party contact databases which are still accessible via the Windows Phone Contacts app.
Rudy Huyn, the same developer as the excellent 9Gag app, has created GContacts, an app which will synchronize with your Gmail account and pull down your contacts for free.
The basic version will synchronize your contact’s full name, phone number, email address, and for an in-app purchase  of $1.29 will also sync their photo, postal address, birthday, website, company name and position, notes every 30 minutes.
After synchronization, you will find all your contacts in the native Contacts application.
If this app proves a success Rudy is also looking at supporting CalDAV for calendar sync.
Ultimately the best solution is really to get of Google’s crack, but if one is stuck there this seems a pretty good solution.
