Windows Phone app downloads, revenue has doubled
Microsoft did not reveal the reasons behind the change, but a few theories are probable:
1) a large number of new Windows Phone users.
2) a large number of new devices purchased by existing owners, stimulating new app downloads.
3) new revenue generating avenues via in-app purchases.
It is most likely a combination of 1 and 2, and of course most of us hope that the main reason is a massive influx of new Windows Phone users.
It is unlikely that Microsoft will clarify the issue at any point, but all by itself a large increase in revenue and downloads is just what Windows Phone needs to attract new developers and keep existing ones.
Related to this Microsoft is running a Developer App contest with the prize being having you app featured on a TV spot in US. Smaller prizes also include Nokia Lumia 920 phones. The contest is open to entrants worldwide. Read more about that here.
